Select an eSIM package (non-modifiable)

Immigration Guide Article2026/04/10

Communication network: In addition to purchasing a Chinese SIM card in advance at domestic airports (China Unicom and China Mobile are recommended, including data and call duration) and activating international roaming for domestic mobile phones, eSIM packages are a more convenient choice, suitable for the short-term travel needs of foreigners to China. The following is a detailed process and precautions for foreigners choosing eSIM packages when coming to China. The steps are clear and in line with the actual application scenarios, and can be directly referred to for operation

I. Preparations Before Processing 1. Equipment confirmation

It is necessary to confirm that your mobile phone is a model launched in Chinese mainland and compatible with the eSIM service of Chinese operators. Overseas version devices are not supported for the time being. Currently, the mainstream supported models include the domestic iPhone 14 series and subsequent Air models, as well as some Android flagship models (you can check in advance in the "Cellular Network" or "Mobile Data" options of your phone to see if there is an eSIM related entry).

2. Document preparation

Bring your original valid passport for real-name authentication during the application process. Some operators also support the application of permanent residence ID cards for foreigners.

3. Channel understanding

You can check the official information of the three major operators, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, in advance to confirm the package type, application channel and supported service outlets (for China Mobile, you can search for "eSIM application and Number collection" through its official APP to check the service outlets).

Ii. Application Process Method 1: Online processing (Recommended, no need to queue offline)

1. Select the channel: Log in to the official APP of the operator (supporting English interface), Alipay International version, Ctrip and other platforms, and search for "short-term eSIM Package";

2. Select a package: Based on the number of travel days, choose a package corresponding to the duration (mostly 3 days, 5 days, 7 days, 15 days, or 30 days). All packages include nationwide universal data traffic, and some support a small amount of talk time. The charges are the same as those of physical SIM card packages.

3. Real-name authentication: Upload a passport photo to complete the real-name authentication. Strictly follow the "one ID, five numbers" rule (up to five numbers can be applied for under the same ID name, including eSIM numbers).

4. Payment Activation: After completing the payment, follow the platform's instructions to download the eSIM card data. Activation can be completed before entry, and it can be used directly after entry without any additional operations.

Method 2: Offline processing (suitable for those who have difficulty operating online)

1. Select a service point: Use the operator's APP or call the customer service hotline (China Mobile 10086) to search for nearby self-owned business halls that support eSIM services.

2. On-site processing: Bring your original passport and a mobile phone that supports eSIM function to the business hall. Staff will verify the IMEI and EID information of the mobile phone and complete the consistency comparison between the person and the ID.

3. Signing the Agreement and Activation: Read and sign the ";eSIM Mobile Phone Service Network Access Agreement". Staff will assist in scanning the QR code to download the card data, test the communication function on site, and complete the processing after confirming that it can be used normally. There is no charge for replacing or reissuing eSIM for the time being.

Iii. Key Points to Note 1. Equipment limitations

Each eSIM mobile phone can be bound to a maximum of 2 eSIM numbers. A maximum of 2 new eSIM numbers can be activated each natural month. Currently, cross-provincial eSIM new network access services are not supported.

2. Renewal and Modification

If you need to extend the usage period after processing, you can directly renew it on the operator's APP. If your mobile phone is lost, replaced or the eSIM card data is accidentally deleted, you need to bring your passport and new mobile phone to the business hall to handle the card replacement service.

3. Network matching

Most hotels, shopping malls and scenic spots offer free WiFi, which can be used in conjunction with eSIM to ensure stable network in scenarios such as navigation and payment. It is recommended to choose a package with sufficient data.

4. Consultation channels

If you have any questions about handling, you can call the operator's customer service hotline (English consultation is supported) or go to the business hall for consultation. You can also seek help through the 12345 multilingual government service hotline.
