Application Guide for Short-Term Study Visa (X2 Visa
The X2 visa is a type of visa issued by China to short-term students, applicable to study, training, exchange programs, and other situations with a stay duration not exceeding 180 days.
Commonly used for Chinese language courses, short-term exchange programs, summer schools, academic training, and similar activities.
Unlike the X1 visa used for long-term studies, the X2 visa applies to shorter-term programs and generally does not require changing to a student residence permit after entry.
Applicants typically need to meet the following conditions:
- Have been admitted by a Chinese school or educational institution;
- The study program must be no longer than 180 days;
- Hold a valid passport;

To apply for an X2 visa, you generally need to prepare:
- A passport valid for at least six months;
- A visa application form and recent passport-sized photos;
- An admission notice or proof of study issued by a Chinese school or training institution;

Compared to the X1 visa, the X2 visa usually does not require submission of JW201 or JW202 forms.
Step 1: Obtain an Admission Notice
Apply for courses at Chinese universities, language schools, or training institutions and obtain official admission documents.
Step 2: Submit the Visa Application
Submit the application materials to the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad, or to a visa application service center, and complete the required procedures as instructed.
Step 3: Wait for Review
The visa authority will review the application materials and may request additional documents or conduct an interview if necessary.
Step 4: Enter China for Study
After obtaining the visa, enter China within its validity period and complete registration at the admitting institution as required.
1. The X2 visa is only suitable for programs with a study duration not exceeding 180 days. For stays longer than 180 days, an X1 visa should be applied for.
