Application Guide for Short-Term Customized Projects

policy2026/07/03

Short-term customized programs are non-degree education programs primarily aimed at overseas universities, enterprises, government agencies, and social organizations, offering international students courses in short-term study, cultural exchange, professional training, and practical experience.

The programs feature flexible durations and rich content, serving as an important pathway to understanding China’s education, culture, and industrial development.

I. Program Introduction

The duration of short-term customized programs typically ranges from one week to six months, with personalized design tailored to the needs of the organizing institution.

Course content may include Chinese language study, Chinese cultural experiences, technological innovation, artificial intelligence, business management, medical exchanges, company visits, summer schools, winter camps, and social practice activities.

Many universities host international summer schools and winter camps annually, attracting students from around the world to come to China for exchange and study.

II. Application Requirements

Requirements vary depending on the program, but generally applicants must:

  • Hold a valid foreign passport;
  • Be in good health;
  • Meet the age requirements of the program;
  • Possess the language proficiency required by the program (some programs offer instruction in English);
  • Obtain a recommendation from their current school or organization (required for certain group programs).

Most short-term programs have relatively relaxed academic background requirements, placing greater emphasis on the exchange experience.

III. Application Process

Applicants can learn about program admissions information through university international offices, international education colleges, or partner institutions.

Submit an application form and relevant materials as required.

Upon review, the institution will issue an admission notice or invitation letter.

Applicants should apply for the appropriate visa based on their study period and arrive in China according to the program schedule.

After completing the course, institutions generally issue a certificate of completion or a study certificate.

IV. Application Materials

Typically include:

  • A valid passport;
  • An application form;
  • A certificate of enrollment or academic transcript (for some programs);
  • A personal resume;
  • A letter of recommendation (for some programs);
  • Proof of financial resources (for some programs);
  • Other materials as required by the program.

V. Important Notes

Short-term programs generally do not confer academic degrees, but participants can obtain a study certificate or certificate of completion.

Applicants should confirm in advance the course dates, fees, accommodation arrangements, and insurance requirements, and apply for the appropriate visa based on the length of study.

When participating in corporate internships, laboratory courses, or off-campus activities, participants should adhere to the regulations of the institution and event organizers.

It is recommended to prioritize programs hosted by universities approved by the Ministry of Education that have qualifications to enroll international students, and carefully read the program prospectus to understand the course schedule, certificate types, and refund policies.

For students planning to pursue degree programs at Chinese universities in the future, participating in short-term programs can also help them gain early exposure to Chinese teaching methods and campus life, preparing them for subsequent studies abroad.
