The Anding Gate of Xi 'an City Wall

strategy2025/10/27

From Andingmen (West Gate), the city wall is less crowded and peaceful, so you don’t have to squeeze through the crowds at Yongningmen. As soon as you step up, your eyes are filled with ancient blue bricks and the old city; the setting sun dyes the barbican a warm golden hue, with old trees and ancient wells creating an atmosphere straight out of “Forever Young.”

Rent a bike and head south, leisurely cruising through Chang’an City in the breeze without rushing. When you’re tired from cycling, slip off the city wall—right across the street is a time-honored paomo restaurant; one bowl will leave you feeling thoroughly relaxed. If you’d rather avoid the crowds, choose West Gate for some quiet time at just the right pace.
