Meilong Town, the charm of time-honored brands

strategy2025/10/28

Built in the 1910s, this building has evolved from an office for British merchants to a residence of Xi Runru, the “Pigment King,” and later purchased by Yu Qiaqing. In 1942, Meilongzhen Restaurant moved in, and this century-old structure is steeped in history.

A Victorian Gothic brick-and-wood structure, with exposed red brick walls paired with Chinese-style eaves—a perfect blend of East and West, full of charm. Six floor-to-ceiling windows line up in a row, set off by red pillars and white balconies, while the south side features a spacious terrace and open veranda.

Inside, intricate carvings, hanging palace lanterns, and colorful screen paintings create an atmosphere rich in traditional elegance, making you feel as though you’ve stepped back into old Shanghai.
